The Avengers

I just found out that The Avengers was called in France Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir – bowler hat and leather boots. Which if you think about it is probably a more descriptive name. I know at least one person who probably only ever watched it for the leather boots…

  2. I remember an interview, the producer was basically saying that for each episode, they contrived to have Mrs. Peel tied up/ Mrs. Peel in a tight fitting garment or wetsuit dunked in water/ Mrs. Peel being tortured, etc.

In the extremis episode ‘murder at the Hellfire club’ the episode was actually not shown in the US because of its content (Mrs. Peel in a tight corset and collar, with a whip).

Strangely when I watched this at age 12, I got none of this stuff. I was so innocent then…

  3. PS of course it’s not widely recognised, but a lot of women I know have a fetish for men in suits…
