It recently published a puff piece (sub required to read) about Vox – the new platform from Six Apart. I am happy with wordpress but this does look like the free personal weblogging service I have long hoped they would produce with a laundry list of good features like LJ-style privacy controls and integration with flickr and youtube. One blogger thought it was still too hard to use for ‘regular folks’ but it has to be easier to use than LJ. More blogging about Vox here…
I do wonder why it is I haven’t heard more about Vox on the blogs I read. Is it because Vox is aimed at personal bloggers not professional ones?

Thanks so much for the mention. I believe blogging technology is still in its infancy. Things like trackbacks, pings, sitemaps, etc. should all be second nature and invisible to the end user for any blogging platform. I look forward to see what happens over the next year. I’ve read that WordPress is working with a firm, KnowHow, on a different admin UI. I’m looking forward to any improvements… there’s too many people out there with great stories – but no easy means of distributing it!

I’ve certainly heard about Vox because of its use by the TWiT’ers. “Net at Nite” is done live on Vox, with people calling in via Vox on the show.
Of course, the big difference between WordPress and Vox is that WP is open source. Six Apart is definitely non-open source. That kills it for me..

I agree that it’s too difficult for the newbie to use. Maybe that’s all the better for us more experienced folks.
But also, there ARE WordPress themes that easily (almost intuitively) handle adding and incorporating audio and video and MORE. I use the Semiologic wordpress theme… the pro version which is NOT free by any stretch. For me, it’s worth it though.
