I love that successful Finnish doctoral candidates are presented with a top hat and sword – at the LSE we have to make do with a little champagne in plastic cups (at least in my department!)

  2. You’ll be glad to know the department has now purchased some glasses, so as long as you get cracking and finish your phd before these all get broken, we can promise you champagne in a proper glass…
