To me the most interesting thing about this article revealing the contents of Saddam’s email box is not the contents themselves (though there are a surprising number of people who want to help the guy out, apparently) but the fact that it is published at all. I was going to post something about those posters earlier but I was just too slow in getting around to taking a picture. Fortunately, Harvey beat me to it.

The posters are very widespead (I think Transport for London may not be finding it easy to sell ads on their shelters at the moment), and surprisingly they are not intentionally ironic. The reason why they have the rather unfortunate Soviet-style iconography is that they are part of a series of Transport for London posters with a similar style. Of course I wouldn’t disregard the possibility that the design agency used by TfL enjoyed the irony.

I take a rather utilitarian perspective on all this CCTV – it doesn’t do as much good at dealing with crime as (for example) better lighting (according to a recent study) but if it makes people feel safer then it is arguably performing a good public service, and there is not much evidence I have seen so far of it being used to oppress the innocent here in the UK. I am entertained by the idea of the Ageless Project which lets you tell the world your birthday and check out weblogs by your own age cohort. I am registered there now. It’s reminiscent of Thomas Boutell’s World Birthday Web (now seemingly deceased due to excessive spamming, though it is still linked to from his homepage).

As I read this fundamentalist Christian site I kept repeating to myself that it has to be some kind of parody – but I have yet to find the spot where they “rip off the masks” and reveal themselves as fraudsters… [later]… someone has pointed out parts of this site which do give the game away, but it’s an incredibly elaborate hoax – and apparently they were hosted for a time on a Christian ISP before they were discovered and booted off.

This site, seems to bring together every crackpot fundamentalist belief or practice you’ve ever heard of in one place. It also led me (I’m ashamed to say) to LustPleasure.com which, suffice it to say, is not what you think (and is perfectly safe to read at the office).
